Dr. Mazen Choulakian completed a degree in health sciences at the Université de Moncton before completing his doctorate in medicine and his residency in ophthalmology at the Université de Sherbrooke. During his studies, he was the recipient of the Jacques-Drouin and Bertrand-Dumais prizes for his excellent academic record and his university involvement.
He completed a year of additional training at the prestigious University of California Davis, under the direction of Dr. Mark Mannis, author of the leading reference in the field, Cornea. Dr Choulakian is also the author of several chapters in this reference book.
Dr. Choulakian specializes in diseases of the cornea and the outer segment of the eye. He offers his patients new techniques in lamellar corneal transplantation as well as in complex surgery of the anterior segment.
Dr. Choulakian is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Université de Sherbrooke and completed a term as Director of the Ophthalmology Residency Program. The pre- and post-doctoral education of university students is close to his heart in order to train the doctors of tomorrow for generations to come. He has also published several scientific articles, written several book chapters, and presented conferences at various national and international congresses. He sits on the administrative committee of the Association des Médecins Ophtalmologistes du Québec, for which he is currently President of the continuing professional development unit.
