A cataract is defined as a loss in lens transparency. Its effect can be compared to looking through a frosted tinted window. The opacity may initially affect only a limited section of the lens and may go unnoticed. However, it tends to evolve over time, causing a reduction in vision quality. Most cataracts are associated with age and generally appear after the age of 50. It is estimated that half of people between the ages of 65 and 75 have cataracts. This estimate increases to 70% for those over age 75.
You can benefit from surgery in both eyes on the same day, when deemed safe by the ophthalmologist. This approach is greatly appreciated by our patients who wish to limit their travel and resume their daily activities quickly.
The IRIS Ophthalmology Clinic is a private establishment specializing in refractive surgery. Our ophthalmologists are exclusively non-participants in the Régie d’assurance maladie du Québec. Our patients value the approach of our multidisciplinary team, which is composed of ophthalmologists, optometrists and registered nurses. Our professionals are ready to advise you on the different technologies available at the IRIS Ophthalmology Clinic, specifically cataract surgery using the Catalys® precision laser.
Read our Preparation guide before your consultation to better understand the questions you will ask our optometrists.
